When I was younger, I didn’t think of the details of what makes a family. I was a part of a military family. Our best feature was to be known as a Group. Our group, The Aarons were the example of what it is to be seen and not heard. To carry ourselves with respect for others, to speak when spoken to and to have our needs met and not want for anything outside of what was necessary for us to live a comfortable life. I love the family that I was created to be a part of. We had so many different personalities in our family and a colorful family history - that it was easier to deal with the independent nature of the individuals with a structure created for no differences at all. We were a military family and acted similarly to those in the military. We adhered to the rules, presented a united front and obeyed the commands of our household. And like those in the military, we individually developed our skills, personalities and goals to accomplish our tour and begin our life outside of the structure of our family. My biggest takeaway from our family is that to be an individual; you had to make a choice to grow on your own. I was the 6th of 7 children and left my parents home last. My connection to my parents was one of maturity. I remember thinking that I believed that they did the best that they could with what they knew how. I believed that they loved all of us. I also understood that there was more to being a family than being affiliated with the same name and looks. I learned that being a family was choice. A choice to be connected and remain connected to those that you were brought up with. I learned to value family at a young age. My value was that anyone could become your family and that family was all about who you’re created to be as a member of a group; but more importantly your heart. #parents #doingthebestthatyoucan #faith #hope #love #familydynamics
